Mellieha Property for Sale

By Knowing Malta | 13 August 2019

Mellieha, the pearl of the northern part of the maltese archipelago, is beautifully perched on a hilltop overlooking the abundant fertile valleys to its sides and Malta’s longest sandy peach, Ghadira beach.

The town has been inhabited since Neolithic times, the  troglodyte caves indicate this. It was posthumously deserted because it was too dangerous and stood as landing point for the Turks and Arabs invading Malta. Only during the time of the Knights, in the 15th century Mellieha was again inhabited. Back then the Knights used it as hunting spot and vacation resort for rabbit hunting for instance.

Mellieha has a wide selection of properties for sale, from apartments to penthouse, to maisonettes to villas with pool, one is certainly spoilt for choice. It is widely available by car, however since it is perched on a hill, it can sometimes, especially in the town mean, that you might have quite a lot of hills and steps to climb. Many homes in Mellieha have incredible views and sunsets are stunning, so the payoff is certainly there. Please see our selection and or browse through an even wider selection of property for sale in Malta.

Its complete revival however, was under the British colonization.  Leases were handed out, to encourage people to settle. Today Mellieha is especially popular with foreign house buyers. The people of Mellieha are famous for their welcoming nature and people who visit Mellieha feel welcomed and right at home.

It is only an hour away from Malta airport and another benefit it has is that it is only 5 minutes drive away from Cirkewwa, the ferry terminal for your visit to Gozo and Comino. It is a good compromise between all the islands, one could say, since it is quieter and more rural, allows island hopping easily and if you need it, you are not far away from the hustle and bustle of Malta and its commercial and entertainment centres.

It is also a good idea for divers, since some of the best sites on the island are found nearby and divers can in one day dive in Malta and Gozo easily. The nearby bird sanctuary in Majjistral Nature and History Park also allows you to witness Malta’s bird diversity and fauna. Nearby Għajn Tuffieħa beach also is host to festivals in summer and invites you to long beautiful sandy beaches and walks along the coast.
